Holy Eucharist and Choral Morning Prayer

On the first and fifth Sundays of the month (and certain Feast Days: Easter, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, etc.), our 11 am service is the Holy Eucharist. On the second, third, and fourth Sundays of the month, we offer Choral Morning Prayer at 11 am.

Holy Eucharist

Holy Eucharist is the central act of Christian worship. It is what Jesus instructed his followers to do when they gathered: break the bread and pass the cup “in remembrance of me.” In addition to the first and fifth Sundays and Feast Days at the 11 am service, we celebrate Holy Eucharist every Sunday at the 9 am and 6 pm services, as well as on Wednesdays at 6 pm. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the Sacrament. Those who are unbaptized are encouraged to come forward for a blessing. If you wish to be baptized, please speak to one of the clergy.

Choral Morning Prayer

Choral Morning Prayer includes many of the same rites as Holy Eucharist– confession of sin, absolution, lessons, psalm, Gospel, sermon, prayers of the people, offertory, and blessing– but this service does not include the administration of Holy Communion. It is the longstanding tradition of the Episcopal Church to offer Morning Prayer as an inclusive service in which everyone, regardless of baptismal status, can fully participate.

Rite I and Rite II

Grace Church offers both Rite I and Rite II services.  If you are a newcomer, we invite you to visit both types of services to see what resonates most with you. You may find that you connect more with one rite than the other.

Rite I Services

Rite I utilizes traditional language that reflects the Elizabethan era and the first Book of Common Prayer. Our 11 am Sunday services, both Holy Eucharist and Choral Morning Prayer, are Rite I services.

Rite II Services

Rite II services utilize more contemporary language. Our Sunday 9 am service, and our Sunday and Wednesday 6 pm services are Rite II.

Worship in the Chantry

Attached to the south wall of the church, you can find the Grace Church Chantry, which provides an intimate setting for our Sunday and Wednesday evening services. To access the chantry, please enter through the gate just north of 10th street on Broadway.

Healing Prayers

On the first Wednesday of the month, the 6 pm service includes healing prayers for anyone seeking a reminder of God’s healing presence. If you would like to receive healing prayers and anointing with holy oil, please come to the front of the church when invited.

Enter, Rest, Pray

The doors of our magnificent church are open every day, and we strive to serve the people who come inside regardless of who they may be. Over time, our membership has come to represent a diversity of faith backgrounds. People have found here an openness to their viewpoints and a respect for where they are in their walk with God. We seek to maintain this welcoming atmosphere so that all who wish to join our fellowship will encounter no unnecessary stumbling blocks in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Music

Music is an integral part of worship at Grace Church. We are blessed with a robust choral program and a talented team of musicians who keep the music flowing at all services.

The Choir of Men and Boys, The Choir of Adults and Girls with High School Singers, and The Adult Choir make up The Combined Choirs of Grace Church. One or more of the choirs sings at the 11 am service every week during the program year.

Dr. Patrick Allen serves as our Organist and Master of Choristers, overseeing our music program and offering music on the Bicentennial Organ in the church and piano in the Chantry.  A talented team of volunteer musicians often joins Dr. Allen at our 6 pm services in the Chantry.

More Information About Worship

  • Name Tags

Name tags can be found on the boards in Tuttle Hall. Newcomers are encouraged to visit our welcome table during coffee hour to create their own name tags. If you are a pledging member and do not see your name tag on the boards in Tuttle Hall, please email Travis Kennedy so he can make you one.

  • Assistive Listening System (ALS)

During Sunday morning worship services, Grace Church provides an assistive listening system (ALS) for visitors with hearing loss. Please bring a small, handheld FM radio to the church to access this system. Once at the church, tune in to frequency 87.6 mHZ on your FM dial to listen. Please visit this page for more information.

  • Become a Worship Leader

Readers, ushers, and altar guild members play vital roles in all our services here at Grace Church. If you feel called to help us lead worship and are interested in learning more about any of these opportunities, email the Rev. James Morton and he can help you connect to a ministry that suits you.

  • Baptism

The sacrament of baptism takes place during a weekly, public worship service about once a month. If you are interested in baptism for yourself or a child, please first be in touch with the Rev. J. Donald Waring to discuss next steps.

  • Altar Flowers

Every Sunday the flowers on the altar assist our prayers by reminding us of the beauty of God’s creation. The gift of flowers is a wonderful way to remember a departed loved one or give thanks for a happy occasion such as a birthday or an anniversary. The flowers not only brighten our Sundays, but remain on the altar most of the week for school chapels and open door hours. If you are interested in sponsoring arrangements, please contact Mickey Hawley in the parish office.

  • Photos and Videos

Photos and videos taken at services display the vibrancy and joy of Grace Church in print and online materials. As a participant in Grace Church events, you have a right to opt out of inclusion in photos/media. To do so, please contact Michelle Henderson.

  • Food and Drink

Please refrain from eating and drinking in the church to help keep the church a clean and peaceful space for all.

    Nut-Free Fare
To ensure the safety of all our parishioners, every precaution is taken to provide food that is nut-free at coffee hours and other receptions. If you are bringing treats for others to enjoy, please make sure they are nut-free.
