Grace Church Women (GCW)

The Grace Church Women (GCW) is a vibrant blend of all ages, acting as a creative, energetic influence in the parish. Throughout the year, the GCW brings the community together at a variety of fundraisers and events such as breast cancer education, presentations by the League of Women Voters, Shrove Sunday brunch, summer ice cream socials, and Trivia Night. Funds raised help support our food pantry partner, The Red Door Place, the New York Haiti Project, and House with Heart, among others. The Grace Christmas Fair is hosted by the GCW each year in early November.

Women’s Bible Study

The Women’s Bible Study meets weekly to discuss the Bible, engage in lively discussion, pray together, and build a community of support and learning. The class meets on Zoom on Wednesdays from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. Contact The Rev. Julia Macy Offinger for more information.

Sunday Evening Adult Formation

These classes meet after the Sunday 6 pm Holy Eucharist in the chantry. Our current class focuses on the poetry of George Herbert, one of the great 17th century poet-priests. Herbert’s poems embrace every shade of the spiritual life, from love and closeness, to anger and despair, to reconciliation and hope. Meeting a total of six times, this course will employ Herbert’s poetry to help us relate to God in new and even surprising ways. The class is led by the Rev. James Morton and no advance reading is necessary to participate. Refreshments are served.

Wednesday Evening Bible Study

That’s in the Bible? Our current Wednesday evening Bible study explores lesser-known stories from Scripture, delving into some of the humorous, subversive, and even bizarre stories of the Bible that you are not likely to hear on Sundays. The Rector and Associate Rector lead the discussion starting at 6:45 pm in the reception room. Refreshments are served.

College Ministry

Canterbury Downtown is an open and inclusive Episcopal campus ministry for students of Manhattan colleges. Students of all religious and cultural backgrounds are invited to share in a faith-based community, connect with one another, and grow together in Christ. During the academic year, students gather for worship, conversation, and a complimentary meal with Canterbury Downtown Chaplain, the Rev. Megan E. Sanders, following the Sunday 6:00 pm service at Grace Church. All college students are welcome.

20s & 30s at Grace Church

We have a very active group of parishioners in their twenties and thirties here at Grace who meet regularly for Pub Theology and other seasonal events. If you are interested in connecting with us, please email the Rev. James Morton and he will add you to our email list.
